Cows could be doing more damage to the environment than four-wheel-drive cars, scientists have warned.

Yes, I read that in the paper this morning. Apparently the main problem is burping, not, er, rear-end emissions.

Do scientists have nothing better to do?

Methinks we are getting a tad too obsessed with environmental issues.

Oh well, I just did my bit for the environment by signing up for a paperless bill with BT (they promise to plant a tree for you):

and my dentist is going to send me reminders by text to my mobile instead of letter, no stamp, no paper, no envelope, it's got to be cheaper.  Save the forests.  If only we could persuade the postman to stop delivering junk

What they will discover next week will be the opposite of what they discovered this week.  Still they do keep us endlessly amused.

Best definition of an expert was from an ex USAF pilot who said "An expert is somebody who has been promoted far beyond his level of competance"

I notice the BBC have now started talking about carbon emissions.  Um, my car has an alternator and a starter motor, plus various electric motors, all of which will emit carbon when used due to wear on the carbon brushes.  Same with various household appliances.  The carbon is emitted as a fine powder which usually sticks to the surrounding area.

Now if they mean Carbon Dioxide that is a very different thing, you would think these clever Media Types could get their basic chemistry right.

Everybody repeat after me:

"Carbon Dioxide is not a significant Global Warming (Sorry - Climate Change) gas.  Carbon Dioxide levels rise as a result of increasing air temperatures which are a result of varying cycles of Solar activity.  The major GW gas is water vapour which is exhaled by the oceans as they warm up due to increased heat from the sun."

It is still not as hot in the UK as it was 200 years ago.

Rant over.

I tried to sign up for paper billing with BT but none of the passwords they sent me never worked so I gave up.

Makes you wonder doesnt it really.  :-\

I mean really!!!! - How long have cows been on this planet mooing, burping and pumping gas into the atmosphere...  makes you wonder how weve survived as long as we have.

Out here in the country, the farmers mix a different flavoured brew of slurry every couple of days.  :(

I think that after the first whiff of it your nose must go into a neutralizing state because it seems to disappear. (The smell not your nose!)

My only thoughts about all the s**t being spread on the land are that we are supposed to eat the foodstuff that it helps grow. Makes you wonder!

I am in favour of a total ban on cows being fed baked beans. That should ease the problem.  ;D

Surely there must be a simple way to utilise the rear end emissions of cows, like directly connecting them up to gas cookers... using 'natural gas' indeed.
