Windows 7 patches
« on: October 30, 2009, 07:48:13 AM »

I see that Microsoft is already issuing hotfixes and patches for Windows 7

Latest one is :-

Quote..."Update for Windows 7 (KB947821)

File Name: Windows6.1-KB947821-v2-x86.msu
Version: 947821
Knowledge Base (KB) Articles: KB947821
Date Published: 10/26/2009
Language: English
Download Size: 27.5 MB
Estimated Download Time: 1 hr 8 min 56K

This tool is being offered because an inconsistency was found in the Windows servicing store which may prevent the successful installation of future updates, service packs, and software. This tool checks your computer for such inconsistencies and tries to resolve issues if found. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Supported Operating Systems: Windows 7

Where was that info from TD?

I just looked and according to M$ updater my version of Windows7 is up to date.. but it doesnt have KB947821 installed.

Edit

According to this
The update is for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 to prevent the successful installation of future updates.

More info according to this

After you download the System Update Readiness Tool, it runs a one time scan for inconsistencies that might prevent future servicing operations.

../snip/..

Microsoft released the System Update Readiness Tool to resolve certain conditions that could cause installing updates and other software not to work. You do not have to manually run this tool. This tool is offered automatically through Windows Update to computers that have a condition that the tool could resolve.

I'm assuming that because the updater doesnt think I need it then its not being offered.

Im not sure -  but something that isnt too clear from that page..  but could this just be for say the Vista Machines and Windows7 Beta which may have future updates to Windows 7 full?
Because I have a new full edition it doesnt need it and this then would explain why its not being offered on my version.

What does the System Update Readiness Tool do?
The System Update Readiness Tool verifies the integrity of the following resources:

    * Files that are located under the following directories:
          o %SYSTEMROOT%\Servicing\Packages
          o %SYSTEMROOT%\WinSxS\Manifests
    * Registry data that is located under the following registry subkeys:
          o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Components
          o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Schema
          o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing

Note This list may be updated at any time.

When the System Update Readiness Tool detects incorrect manifests, files, or registry data, it might replace the incorrect data with a corrected version.

So it looks like the updater has decided that my version is ok.

May be interesting to see if jid needs it or not  as iirc he updated from Vista?
I think hes also using a different version of Windows 7
