BT BROADBAND - SLOW .... HELP!
« on: May 28, 2007, 04:32:43 PM »

Dear Kitz Forum,

Am having a nightmare of a time trying to sort out my slow broadband connection!  I've contacted BT Broadband telephone support and ended up being on the phone for well over an hour... after several line tests, speed tests and jiggling around with plugs and wires, things still arnt any better!  I was told to monitor my line speed for the next couple of days and get back to them if things didnt improve.... and things havnt!

I use a 3 month old HP laptop with a intregrated wireless modem inside.  My router is the BT Voyager 2091.  Am meant to be recieving speeds of up to 8mb, however am bearly getting 1mb!

Have tried plugging the router directly into the master socket, however found no change in speeds.

Used the BT Speed tester and obtained the following results:

IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  6240 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 110 kbps

My results from speedtest.net are also below:

Look forward to hearing from you!

Many thanks,
David.

Hi David, welcome to the forum.

Your problem is a very low IP profile, which will be the result of a recent low speed connection. If you continue to sync at  6240 for three days (or a bit more) your profile should increase to 5500 kbps which will give you much higher download speeds. But there has to be a reason for the low speed connection, so it would be worth giving attention to http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/lowSNR.htm which gives some good advice about improving your own internal connection arrangements.

If your wiring and filters etc. are already in good order, and you still get periodic low-speed connections, then there may be a line problem which will need investigation.

Maybe he was making a mistake like i was and turning of his router at night..
i wasnt aware if affected the line profile and i reached the pitiful 135k ip profile he is recieveing..
maybe too simple a diagnosis but its just a thought :)
