I'm not sure that going from T to TT is great news, but it's probably the best outcome for subscribers.

Not surprising really, something had to happen soon.

In one step, it makes TalkTalk the UK's largest residential broadband provider with over 25 per cent residential market share and a total of 4.25 million customers.

What I do find sad is that it's getting harder and harder for the 'original ISPs' to maintain a share in the market place.  Many ISPs these days are large corporates who have fingers in other pies.

I also find it slightly amusing that someone like TT is able to become the largest UK ISP, yet the monopolies commission would have had a fit if someone like BT had bid for them.

If like when they took over AOL, things will stay like they are for a little while..  then they slowly integrated the 2 networks into one.

From a customers perspective you probably wont see that much change as their business models seem to be similar.

I still don't know what actually happens to us Tiscali customers....

I am sure we will know soon.

I doubt much at the moment or at least until June, which I believe is Takeover time.

I do wonder whether a few Tiscali customers will bail out, somehow I doubt it`ll be that many...

One thing is absolutely certain.....Tiscali won`t be making any effort to fix things if it involves £`s/Investment.

Another certainty....Support won`t improve yet.

Service won`t change yet.

Personally, I see a few things happening once its signed & sealed, an amalgamation of support (read redundancies), closing of various offices & basically selling off whatever TT don`t need.... as with all mergers/takeovers its more about saving money by consolidation than about the needs of the customer, which will equal making more money.

Whether the service will improve is yet to be seen, whether TT will invest in the network & improve things is yet to be seen, I`m sure they are many more questions....

One question is could it still fall through & TT walk away? I doubt it, but you never know...

Well I have managed to find things here and there, but most are from the PDF document here

Quote
Customer migration
– 50% of Tiscali UK base is unbundled today, compared to 78% of TalkTalk’s base
– Within 24 months, it’s expected that over 80% of the enlarged TalkTalk customer base
will be on single unbundled network
– Margin improvement from migration of much of Tiscali’s ‘off-net’ customer base over time

Network Integration and simplification
– Reduced backhaul costs
– Core Network rationalisation
– Individual exchange efficiencies

Quote
Tiscali customers
• Similar customer profile to TalkTalk
• Tiscali brand
• No change for existing Tiscali customers
• Tiscali portal
• Further benefits to Tiscali customers

Quote
Annualised cost savings between £40m and £50m by March 2011

Its all about cost savings  ;)

TalkTalk seem to have sorted themselves out reasonably well over the last couple of years.
Having to recover the costs of purchase and deal with Tiscali's "bargain-basement" priced income stream and under-resourced service I can see a combined business dragging TalkTalk customers down to a new "lowest common denominator".  :'(

Tiscali' s customers won't feel any impact for 18+ months, if at all. All depends on how T & TT combine their LLU platforms.

Feonix, may I ask how you are getting 9meg on Tiscali?

ADSL2+ Business product is my guess  :P

Yes I wouldn't have thought that we will be seeing Tiscali and Talk Talk networks combine in the next 2 months!

Reading through all the presentations and press releases by CPW they want to migrate everything to Talk Talk within 18-24months of purchasing Tiscali UK

Hi jid,

Your guess is pretty close - ADSL 2+ AnnexM presentation test product. That speed test isn't accurate for me unfortunately, my download and upload speeds are significantly higher than that test seems to be able to measure ;-)

At my guess, 2 months is about how long it'll take to get  beyond the anti-competition investigations that have to go on when large companies merge. After that they've got all Tiscali's legacy back-end systems to sort out before they can begin to merge their LLU platforms... that's not even starting to think about all the business customers they have on different boxes and systems. Or all the IPTV stuff.
