File associations.

Can anyone please explain why I keep getting this  message whenever I try to download
a film,   `This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action,create an association in
the set associations control panel`  how do I do this?..I am using Vista premium.thank you ..

Because it does not know which program to use to play it.

If you right click the file and select "Open with" then from the list of programs chose which of your movie player software you want to play it with, once you have selected the correct program (because you don't say what the extension is) place a check mark in the box at the bottom to "Always use this program to play this type of file" (or something similar to that)

Each time you then click on that type of file it will or should then start playing with the program you selected.
