Netgear dg834g

Hey there all, I finally got an adsl modem router,
I`m having difficulty in configuring it. I`ve tried the standard ip address which is 192.168.0.1, but it doesn`t bring up the configuration screen, am I missing something more obvious? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Kroney

Assuming that it's a new router, then that address should work, but I believe that there have been some problems of this kind with IE7, so it might be worth trying a different browser. Also you could try typing http://192.168.0.1 and not just the numbers. If it's not a new router then the previous owner may have changed the address, so a factory reset may help; I don't have the manual to hand, but this is usually a matter of sticking a paper clip in a small hole at the back and holding it there for several seconds.

I'm assuming you're trying to connect via a wired connection, as wireless introduces a second layer of possible problems, but going a little further than a factory reset:

Click Start >> Run and type CMD
In the Dos Prompt type IPCONFIG - Is your default gateway 192.168.0.1? if not then try this address in your address bar instead, also check you are being assigned an IP address in the same range (192.168.0.x) - If you get a bunch of 0's or a 169.x.x.x address then your router isn't assigning you an IP correctly via DHCP.

This is OS dependant.
