Council misuse of anti-terrorism laws
« on: November 01, 2008, 11:06:08 AM »

More on the council bin snoops... surely there are more important matters to worry about (and to spend our council tax on).

I've separated this from its original thread whose originator changed his mind. :)

Being of an age to remember when the dustbinmen came down your path, picked your bin up and emptied, then returned it, I find it difficult to believe all the shenanigans nowadays.  I agree with recycling, and do it faithfully, then someone working for the council whispers in my husbands ear that it all goes to landfill anyway.  I sort my bottles according to colour, then when the wagon comes to empty the receptacles, it tips them all in together.

My grand daughter bought a new house on a large development, where only communal bins are provided, and no recycling facilities at all

Maybe it's time we started spying on the council for a change

I like yourself Anne do all the usual recycling stuff, but I'm getting very disillusioned about it all.I don't think councils do enough to encourage you to recycle, but when you put the wrong stuff in your bins they want to throw you in the Tower of London.Like you point out what is the point of having different coloured glass bins when they all go on the same pile when collected.
A couple of weeks ago Sue noticed that the wrapping on packs of fruit was recyclable. We didn't know what to do with it so I sent an email to the recycle now website. The reply wthat came back was they didn't have a clue and sent me a link about recycling carrier bags. :o

Yes and in those days the bins were metal, full of ashes from the coal fire, and the binmen hauled them up on their shoulders to tip them into the cart... none of these namby-pamby wheelie bins.

Our house it was my younger sister first, then me,then my mum and dad last,by that time the water was like pea soup and then the poor bugger had to empty it while we sat round the fire being forced enjoying our Ovaltine.
