Invalid ID
« on: October 29, 2008, 04:49:45 PM »

Just recently when I've logged on to the site, or as I log off, the banner at the top of the page often reads:-

"Invalid ID.  Either something's gone wrong or you're messing".

On most occasions I get the appropriate advertising banner.  What causes this?  I'm not messing because I wouldn't know how to!!  The site works perfectly fine for me so nothing seems to have gone wrong from my point of view it's just that I don't always get the revolving ISP advert that is usually up there.

I had a problem 2 days ago (nothing like yours though)

Followed Kitz suggestion of cleaning out the cookies and all was then ok.

Might be worth trying!

I think I know what this may be - and it is probably a caching problem

I removed one of the advertising banners so the rotation link now only displays 4 rather than 5 images.
To do this I simply changed the script from 4 to 3 (the google one slots in differently) and then removed the image from the server.

What I imagine is happening is that your browser will have a cache of the old script which calls rotation 1,2,3,4,google... only now it cant find image 4 so thats possibly when you see the message.

Can you let me know please if it continues... because Ive just thought of somewhere else where it may be being cached.
Such as those ISPs that use a proxy server like AOL (and if TT are using AOL's proxy).

I've cleared cookies and temp files and all seems normal now so your first suggestion seems to be the correct one.  Glad I haven't accidentally broken the internet ???

lol... I will hold my hand up for the "Invalid ID" message - I had a mischievous moment when coding that part of the banner rotation script ;) Perhaps it needs changing to something a little more user-friendly, or simply a blank image instead!

or simply a blank image instead!

Or, a note saying something like "Thank-you for visiting Kitz's forum and we hope you will return"

This could then be inserted at anytime there is a need to alter the sequence.
