That's spot on.  I even opened the casing to see if anything looks out of place but I'm baffled.

I've just discovered that I can connect with Frostwire and search for files without a problem  ???

hmmm indeed.
The most likely explanation is DNS issues

Im  not familiar with frostwire..  but it appears to be a p2p search tool.  If this is the case then it will be searching on the IP address of who is connected to their servers.

So yet again no problems with connections via the IP address, so its not the actual broadband connection

Try using OpenDNS

What is the make and model of the router that you have?

I wonder if your ports are being blocked?  If you are using frostwire it may be opening up ports via upnp.

Are there any events in your router logs?

PROBLEM SOLVED  ;D Yes, OpenDNS did the trick.  I changed to their recommended settings and voila everything is back to normal.  You guys have been fantastic I'll be sure to recommend you to my friends and I'll continue to check out the forum.  Who knows what I'll learn  :D
