IMO the CA forum is still one of the best (UK based) general tech forums there is... just a pity about the way the CA staff seem to treat its management with such indifference.

I agree that CA is a good web site for tech info but as you say the staff seem to take no notice of any comments made about the site even when they are constructive sensible suggestions.

... For the price of it, I don't mind. Some things crap,

Although the price is fairly reasonable, what annoyed me most was the amount of advertising that had taken over.
When you consider the amount of detail in most of the adverts, I would consider these as being more than your normal run-of-the-mill-adds, thus being paid for other than the usual advertising rate.

Then we have the case of the diminishing pages.
First of all they reduced the physical paper size down to A4.
Followed by not sending out the free disc's.
Then a years or so ago the average page quantity was 120 pages per issue.
Now, including front and back cover it's down to only 85 pages per issue.

As for it's forums, the advice that is and has been given "by the forum members" is usually excellent and can't be faulted.
But as for the running and management, well that leaves a lot to be desired.

And on that final note, "good-bye" CA/Vnu etc.

heh the prices are crazy and like you say dont add up.

I had the 6 month subscription since about 1998/1999.  I'd been reading the mag since it very first came out, and I paid (and continued to pay) £10 per half year by direct debit which was never increased and just automatically renewed.

I never EVER got a single freebie from them..  and until last month I kept the whole collection.  But last month I decided they were taking up way too much room and got rid of the lot.

I think I stopped posting in "Readers to the Rescue" in about 2002 when I became embarrased that my name appeared in the mags solutions for a few issues and one in particular where each answer published came from me.  Ive actually been on the CA site longer than my profile says...  a change of email address caused my profile to be reset and all previous post counts were removed and I went back to being a newbie again (typical forum type botch up).

When I cancelled, I just cancelled my DD at the bank.  Never said anything to VNUnet and they just stopped sending them through presumably when they received notification that the DD was cancelled.
I must admit I did expect some sort of correspondence or contact from VNUnet asking why I'd cancelled  - particulary in view of the long time that I'd subscribed.
