Speedtouch 585 - Annex A / Annex M
« on: July 01, 2008, 09:35:22 PM »

These settings are at your own risk and this site will not take any responsibility for changes that you make to your router.
The following settings will only work if Be* have already enabled Annex M on your line.

With Firmware V6.2.G onwards its possible to switch between Annex A /Annex M via the CLI

adsl debug multimode config=g992.5_AnnexA

adsl debug multimode config=g992.5_AnnexM

With previous versions - (tested on FW v 6.1.4.3.0)

As some of you are probably aware Ive been attempting to find a way to clear my ever increasing CRC/HEC errors and whilst playing with the CLI, I appear to have stumbled across a way to change between Annex A / Annex M by accident.

Before I start, The standard default string for Be AnnexA/AnnexM (as set by Be) is

Code: [Select]

{Administrator}[adsl]=>config
ADSL configuration:
        opermode = multi_adsl2plus
        trace = enabled
        modemoption = 00:07:09:05:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00

These are the results of my experiments and what the following modem option strings give me

ADSL1 (G.992.1)

Code: [Select]
modemoption = 00:07:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00[note:- 02,03,06+07 in the 2nd bit also gave adsl1]

ADSL 2 (G.992.3)

Code: [Select]
modemoption = 00:07:01:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00[note:- 02.. in the 3rd bit also gave adsl 2. 09 in the 3rd bit gives adsl2+]

Annex A ( Modulation:G.992.5 Annex A )

Code: [Select]
modemoption = 00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00
Annex M ( Modulation:G.992.5  Annex M US 56 )

Code: [Select]
modemoption = 00:07:09:05:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00

Now armed with this info, and using DMT tool its really very easy to swap modem options using the 4th hidden tab.
- See screen cap below
Change the settings as shown, then click the "Apply/Resync" button.
AnnexA / AnnexM on demand  ;D
(you will need to be logged into the forum to see the image.)

All you need to change are:
Field 2 (01)  07 <-> 00
Field 3 (02)  09 <-> 00
Field 4 (03)  05 <-> 00

The strings will work even if you retain your own settings in
Field 1 (00) - Target SNR
Field 5 (04) - Spectral Shaping

My SNR is a bit low right now so not the best time to show effects of my full line potential (I can get full 24Mb ) but you get the idea.

Annex A

Modulation:   G.992.5 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:   1,416 / 24,245

TBB Speedtest
Speed Down 19934.90 Kbps ( 19.5 Mbps )
Speed Up 1181.30 Kbps ( 1.2 Mbps )

Annex M

Modulation:   G.992.5 Annex M US 56
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:   2,658 / 22,907

TBB Speedtest
Speed Down 19008.34 Kbps ( 18.6 Mbps )
Speed Up 2217.96 Kbps ( 2.2 Mbps )

------------
AFAIK this info has not been disclosed or tested elsewhere - so you make any changes at your own risk.
I have repeated this test many times without any problems.
Do not do this unless you are confident about what you are changing.

Please post feedback if it worked for you.

hum I misread the second post.
My 585v6 6.1.4.3 does  not get  G.992.5 Annex M US 56 and so on when I input your values via DMT.
Are these values ISP-dependent ?
How can I verify the modulation change is effective ?

The ISP has to support Annex-M and it has to be set on both the MSAN and on the users account.
Its a way of switching between annex-m and annex-a for those people who are already on annex-m.

If the change is effective you will be able to tell by the sync speed and which tones are in use for the upstream.
