Is my speed capped?

(1/1)

ima poster:
Hi.  With Talktalk on 76Mbps line.   My speeds seem suspiciously round-numbered.  The talk talk rep said these numbers are just what they happen to be for my line.  Would appreciate any views on this.

your line must be a long one at 25 attenuation,  why are you on 80/20 service, its not going to get anywhere near this. For example my line at 14.5 gives me 60-70 tops on the ds..

DS might be banded at 19999?. The 999 is sometimes an indication. Can you see what your max attainable figure is out of interest?

Iain:
Or they have provisioned you on a 20/2 service.

Max achievable speeds, and the results of a DSL Checker would help.

j0hn:
There is no 20/2 (or is that the old 18/2 (now defunct for new customers)).
The line looks to be on 40/2, so "upto 38Mb" not "upto 76Mb". The 76Mb package cost £5 more, but you wouldn't benefit from it.

The downstream is suspicious with that rounded number, but every now and then a line will sync at a 999 figure by coincidence.
If it is banded, with an snrm of 5.7dB it doesn't look like you're missing out on much. If on a Huawei cabinet the line might have a few more Mb in it at 3dB.

Can you follow this guide and tell us which cabinet type you are on
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/cabinet-lookup.htm

also if you resync the line is it exactly 19,999 every time?
