Agreed. NetFlix wouldn't be happy, they wouldn't have a business presumably, or people would have to put up with some vile quality while waiting for very powerful new maths to deliver even more compression. Netflix need some good lobbyists to get public money wasted on cheap internet access.
I'm fairly sure that around here a lot of people have not paid for FTTC now, either because they've got no money (they haven't), or are too tight or too stingy. In fact very often all three.
My sister said she couldn't tell the difference when she went from 49k + 0% - 100% - 300% compression with Demon dialup and MPPC to ADSL 0.5 Mbps. But it was half the price, as no £45 per month charge to BT for unmetered phone line time with the old SurfAnyTime deal, plus £11 pm line rental.
