U.M.R.C.C
« on: January 24, 2018, 09:02:23 PM »

Now that I have your attention I wonder if you might be able to assist me, please?

I am looking at the "asset label" affixed to the rear of an item of test equipment. The label reads U.M.R.C.C. and in the oblong immediately below, there is a hand-written number "1444".

Discounting the obvious "Udder Malfunction Rejuvenating Cold Cream" and "University of Manchester Rodent Collectors' Club" I wonder if any kitizen could identify the meaning of those five letters. I am assuming the field in question will be either telephony or broadcasting.

Could it have once belonged to University of Manchester Regional Computing Centre? If so the handwritten number would be an asset number.

Could it have once belonged to University of Manchester Regional Computing Centre?

That might well be the correct interpretation. Thank you.

Other suggestions will be appreciated, please.

Could you elaborate further on the make and model of the test equipment, also am I right to assume it is utilised (or was), in the telecoms sector ??

Could you elaborate further on the make and model of the test equipment, . . .

A Wandel & Goltermann Pegelsender PS-10, with a range of 200 Hz to 4 kHz and output level adjustable from 0 to -59.9 dBm.

I am certain that it would have been used in the telephony or broadcasting fields. Thinking some more about it, I believe that 4C (back in his repeater station days) would have referred to it as "a brick".

Sorry, no amount of searching using all, or some, of the wording can be found on our internal databases.

You easily find images of this via Google. If the label on yours is extra to any of the images that would tend to suggest my theory is likely to be correct.
