Attenuation jumping from 15db to 53db and loads more problems
« on: November 20, 2017, 12:38:33 PM »

Ok so i have had fttc on this line for 3+ years and i am currently with plusnet have been for years. My line is around 410mtr from the green box and usually i get 74mbit down and always a max 19999 upload.

My line has been lowered months ago to 3db and when it works ok is stable for months at a time, however it goes through fazes where my sync will remain but my throughput will drop to 25mbit day and night for day's sometimes weeks also the line attenuation has started to do something new taking my att from 15db to 53db ?!

I have had easily 10 bto engineers out, two were out at the house for 2 day's solid loading 400mtr cable's from the fiber cabinet to compare loss etc and making sure all twist pairs joints were all ok. I have had 2 lift and shifts and multiple dlm resets and it'll be just as bad as before then one day it'll be a perfect line again with no errors or anything.

Again this may last days hours weeks but guaranteed it will screw up again as it has now.

So these are my stats at the moment using my unlocked hg612 running a cat6 cable to the router

So after another lift and shift and port change only last week and a full dlm reset i get the same att fault going from 15db to 53db.

You can view my graph's on mydslwebstats look for user "empty"

Totally sick to death of this as nobody seems to know or understand it, bto bloke come out tests with his silly little toy say's max speedf your line is capable of is 56mbit ? i show i have sat at 74 for months no errors nothing he scratches his head and said line is testing fine and away he goes again.

Help anyone ? never seen graphs like mine before!

Note att fault seemed to happen last time we had a dry cold spell then it started raining a few days later then bam fault shows

Also someone please check out my QLN graph as i have suddenly started missing a frequencies from 2450-2800mhz upload wise again never seen anything like it beforer

Welcome to the Kitz forum.  :)

From the data you have shown, it is clear that there is some defect in the D-side pair but the problem is determining where that fault is located.  :(

b*cat goes to look at the relevant plots via MDWS . . .

Not much to go on with current MDWS plot the attenuation is obviously incorrect for the line length does your attenuation change after say a resync/retrain

If you search back andshow the past 5 days you’ll see how stable the bands on the upstream usually are compared to now. And if I reconnect it sometimes goes back down to 15db other times no. Seems to have a mind of its own but defiantly affected by rain as it only happens after a dry spell.

Yeah no noise at all. Connection resynced today after dlm dropped me down to 3db again and now my attenuation is back to normal and the upstream max has dropped from 34mbit to 25.

Looks like a bridge tap my untrained eye. Very odd it's only the downstream tones.
Have you tried connecting straight to the test socket with 1 of the mousetail filters?  That would rule out any internal wiring issues. Do you connect a Sky box/home alarm or any other device to any of the phone sockets?

Its going directly into a brand new fitted bt face plate the latest version, all internal wires checked many times. Fault has been raised again with bt as it's showing an impairment in the copper joint on the local network.

So i wait again to see if they can fix it although not hopefull
