Quote
Microsoft today announced that the Fall Creators Update, the next major release of Windows 10, will start rolling out to all users on October 17. That’s a little bit later than some pundits expected but still well within Microsoft’s promised release window.

I added a thread in the Windows section with further links: http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,20393.0.html

Is this another Creators Update or the one originally released in June which I upgraded to straight away. I am confused?

I think this is the creators update.

I've been reading they have pulled a lot of the features they were going to put in for some reason. I'm hoping thats a good thing.

I wonder how many people use Win10 in business? Updating must be a nightmare if something goes wrong.

This is the Fall Creators Update, (version 1709) the Creators Update was version 1703.

Running 'winver' will show what you currently have.

Windows versions

Upgraded two machines and no problems so far. Noticed a few new features such as detailed GPU performance stats in task manager and filling PDF forms in in Edge which sort of works I can type in boxes but cannot use the tick box selection. Also a 3D print app but haven't got a 3D printer so can't test.

Remember there is a business branch that gets the feature updates several months behind, so when the beta testers (cough home users) have found the bugs, then they update.

Anyone on pro can choose to use the business branch which I think is a the best choice unless you love to get things as soon as they ready.

Alpha/Beta - insider builds
Beta/RC - default branch for non enterprise
Stable - Business branch

:)

I have Pro. Out of interest how would I go about changing branches to the business branch?

Just go to the windows update settings page and select the Defer Upgrades option - there are more complicated ways using Group Policy if you prefer  ???

Oh.. I'll have a look at that at some point. I'm always wary of going to that page as for me it usually ends up starting the download lol

I just checked and it's not there any more! Guess it got removed/hidden around the first Creators Update maybe.

On the current PC Settings/Update and Security/Windows Update/Advanced Options (which is where it was) I only see a greyed out dropdown that says Current Branch for Business. See attachments.

You'll have to use gpedit.msc to change the Group Policy. Easiest is probably to Google it and follow the instruction - maybe try:

Open a Group Policy Object that is targeted at the machines you wish to use CBB
Navigate to Computer Configuration - Policies - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Windows Update
Double click Defer Upgrades and Updates
Enable the policy and set a duration for upgrade duration
Click OK

if that is still there!

And yes, do NOT select Pause Updates as it will immediately try to  download anything available!

Semi-annual-channel is likely the equivalent, why they changed to a more confusing name scheme is beyond me tho.
