@shdf is there still a risk going to 1.0.4 that you may lose root if you have to factory reset or can this be mitigated?

there is no risk if you are on bank 1 active
it's the only thing that you have to worry. You can see this from the GUI or from putty with the command :
cat /proc/banktable/active
if the result is bank_1 then everything should work.

i made several tests, i flashed 1.0.4 and i flashed back 1.0.3 and flashed again 1.0.4, i was all the time on bank_1 active so i think the process is "fool proof" :) I recommend flashing the firmware from the GUI, that's what i did.
Don't forget that upgrading the firmware will cancel your settings, so make a copy of your /etc/config/ before, it will be easier to reconfigure after.

But if you're afraid you can stay with the firmware 1.0.3 and use the latest GUI. At our level there is no difference between both firmware, all the improvement/bug fixes/new features etc...are coming from the GUI. So if you don't want to take the risk to upgrade you will not miss anything.

@shdf can you report the bug above; I too have upgraded to DGA4130 Firmware 1.0.4 Webui 4.5.10; but still get the pppoa error; and have done in all GUI and both firmware.

http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,20343.msg360304.html#msg360304

I have tried posting on the Italian forum but have given up after about 1 hour, verification and translation is a pain.

Now the Transmission tutorial here : http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,20343.msg356335.html#msg356335
must be replaced with this :

you can install the bittorrent client Transmission with opkg, just type these commands in putty :

opkg install libevent2
opkg install transmission-daemon
opkg install transmission-web

once done, go to /etc/config/transmission
set option enabled 1
Add your usb key path in download_dir : "/mnt/usb/USB-A1/" or "/mnt/usb/USB-A2/" depending which port you used.
example:
option download_dir '/mnt/usb/USB-A1/done'
option incomplete_dir '/mnt/usb/USB-A1/incomplete'

To start/stop/restart transmission : /etc/init.d/transmission restart/stop/restart

To access the transmission web interface : http://192.168.1.1:9091

 :)

Also in the Aria2 tutorial : http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,20343.msg356456.html#msg356456
Replace :
Packages installation :
opkg install http://brcm63xx-tch.ddns.net/base/libstdcpp_4.8-linaro-1_brcm63xx-tch.ipk
opkg install http://brcm63xx-tch.ddns.net/packages/aria2_1.18.7-1_brcm63xx-tch.ipk

With :
Packages installation :
opkg install libstdcpp
opkg install aria2

I seem to have lost the unencrypted feature of the exported configuration file (gateway > export configuration)

When I unlocked the router I selected "Importa e esporta conf in chiaro" = Import/export configuration files unencrypted.

I suspect when I upgraded the firmware to 1.0.4 the unencrypted configuration file (config.bin) feature was lost.

Is there any way of getting the feature back?

yes, in /etc/config/system set everything to '1'

config config 'config'
   option export_plaintext '1'
   option export_unsigned '1'
   option import_plaintext '1'
   option import_unsigned '1'
   option rooted '1'

Did a upgrade to 1.0.3, still using GUI 3.25 and tested the Asus 1.10.03 and archer vr2800 v1(B2pvbH042s) xdsl driver.
But for me there is no difference in syncrate and still Interleaving depth 8/4.
Does anyone have the new A2pvfbH043k.d26m (1.1.0_001) driver with 1.0.3/1.0.4 running?

Do i need to delete /overlay/bank2 before upgrading to fw 1.0.4 or better stay at 1.0.3 when only need bridge mode running ?
I just want to disable as many things as possible and I would like to use/test the latest xdsl driver...  :-[

root@VDSL_bridge:~# cat /proc/banktable/active
bank_1

I have also downloaded my current config and noticed a few things...
Quote
[mobiled]
mobiled.device_defaults=device_defaults
mobiled.device_defaults.radio_pref='lte'
mobiled.device_defaults.enabled='0'
mobiled.platform=platform
mobiled.platform.power_on='1'
Could this be related to log message [mobiled] (WaitingForDevice) runs WaitingForDevice-Main.check ?
I dont need the mobile part and disabled it in router mode before switched to bridge mode but the log message is still there...

Quote
[power]
power.ethernet=ethernet
power.ethernet.ethapd='1'
power.ethernet.autogreeen='1'
power.ethernet.eee='1'
power.cpu=cpu
power.cpu.cpuspeed='256'
power.cpu.wait='1'
Could these settings be related to the latency/ping problem ?

[ledfw]
ledfw.internet=service
ledfw.internet.check='1'
ledfw.iptv=service
ledfw.iptv.check='0'
ledfw.iptv.itf='iptv'
ledfw.voip=service
ledfw.voip.check='1'
ledfw.timeout=timeout
ledfw.timeout.ms='0'
Could this be related to the red LED problem in bridge mode ?

Quote
[mcastsnooping]
mcastsnooping.lan=interface
mcastsnooping.lan.mld_snooping='0'
mcastsnooping.lan.mcast_flooding='1'
mcastsnooping.lan.igmp_snooping='1'
Do i need igmp_snooping and mcast_flooding enabled in bridge mode ?

Quote
[igmpproxy]
igmpproxy.globals.state='1'
Igmp proxy should be completely disabled in bridge mode... I allready used /etc/init.d/igmpproxy stop + /etc/init.d/igmpproxy disable

Quote
[minidlna]
minidlna.config.enabled='1'
minidlna.config.inotify='1'
Does this mean minidlna is enabled ? I really don't need it in bridge mode...

Sorry for so many questions at once...
Best regards !!

@Lil-Koby
Don't try to change the dsl driver to the newest A2pvfbH043k.d26m with a 1.02/3/4 firmware, for this version i think there are more files to change than the only adsl_phy.bin.
if you just change this file the the modem will crash and go in a boot loop. Some users have tested already...

you don't have to delete /overlay/bank2, just do the upgrade form the GUI, everything is well managed.

About the [mobiled] I did not look into the problem, so i don't know...Maybe Ansuel can answer about that.

About the power.cpu and power.ethernet, it's only about energy saving, the CPU speed and ethernet activity can be reduced when idle.

About minidlna yes you can disable it.

For other questions i don't know...
