ADSL BER test
« on: August 23, 2017, 12:50:02 AM »

What do you think about following result on 21211 kbps synchronization with SNR margin 2.2 dB.

Code: [Select]
# adslctl bert --show
adslctl: BERT results:
BERT Status = NOT RUNNING
BERT Total Time   = 360 sec
BERT Elapsed Time = 360 sec
BERT Bits Tested = 0x000000019C337D00 bits
BERT Err Bits = 0x00000000000006B8 bits

I don't think any of us regularly check the result of a BERT.

As I don't have any frame of reference with which to compare your result, I performed a 6 minute BER test on my own circuit. Here's the result --

Code: [Select]
$ xdslctl bert --start 360
$ xdslctl bert --show
xdslctl: BERT results:
BERT Status = NOT RUNNING
BERT Total Time   = 360 sec
BERT Elapsed Time = 360 sec
BERT Bits Tested = 0x00000000637FDD00 bits
BERT Err Bits = 0x0000000000000000 bits
$ xdslctl info --show
xdslctl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime
Last Retrain Reason: 8000
Last initialization procedure status: 0
Max: Upstream rate = 916 Kbps, Downstream rate = 5876 Kbps
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 923 Kbps, Downstream rate = 5120 Kbps

Link Power State: L0
Mode: ADSL2 Annex A
TPS-TC: ATM Mode(0x0)
Trellis: U:ON /D:ON
Line Status: No Defect
Training Status: Showtime
Down Up
SNR (dB): 6.6 6.9
Attn(dB): 46.0 29.0
Pwr(dBm): 0.0 12.7
<snip>

It seems as if your use of the lower target SNRM of 2.2 dB has resulted in a number of errors.
