I've never had any interest in ssh tunnelling and so I won't pretend I understand what you did, but excellent to hear you found a solution. :)

[REAL FINAL SOLUTION]

After gaining root access to my gateway, I just found the command of wol. , It is ZWOL :D. You can execute it as admin too!

$ zwol
Options:
-b  Send WOL packet to the broadcast address.
        -d  Target IP.
        -D  Debug mode.
-i  Interface which is responsible to send WOL packet.
        -m  Target MAC address.
        -s  Source IP.
        -h  Help.

So , go with :

Code: [Select]
zwol -m 11:22:33:44:55:66 and works like a charm :).

11:22:33:44:55:66 is an example , you need to know the MAC address of the target system you want to wake/boot.

We were getting close to the answer then, after all. :)

Slightly annoying that different packages and distributions choose so many different names for the same utility...

ether-wake
etherwake
wol
zwol

As mentioned, whilst my Billion has 'wol', the usage message for 'wol' names 'ether-wake', even though ether-wake is not present in that router. ???
