BT SmartHub 6 as router only?
« on: July 28, 2017, 03:05:14 PM »

Can the newest BT HomeHub 6/SmartHub be used as just a router? It's missing a WAN port. I know they make an FTTP version with a WAN port but I'm talking about the DSL variant.

I read a tutorial online from the BT forum saying you can use Ethernet port 4 as a WAN port but it simply doesn't work. Nobody confirmed the tutorial worked either.

I'd also like to know if this is possible as i'm about to move from Sky to BT and would like to keep mu unlocked HG612 Openreach modem in the setup a) as the chipset (Broadcom) matches with the DSLAM & b) so that any fiddling/reboots etc that I do of the router does not affect the stability of the connection as seen by the DSLAM (DLM)

No, there is no WAN port on the DSL variant of the (not so Smart) Homehub 6. None of the LAN ports can be configured as a WAN.

As the OP of this over 6 months ago I can say with certainty it's not possible.
There's no way use to 1 of the LAN ports as a WAN port on the DSL version.

There is a BT SmartHub/Homehub 6 variant for FTTP which looks identical but has a WAN port instead of a DSL port.
