Bricked VMG1312-B10A
« on: July 27, 2017, 08:32:17 PM »

So I set up email notification of the 1312 log and pressed email now and it locked up. So went downstairs and powered off the modem. Powered back on but the power light didn't come on just the LAN light. Looks like it is bricked as I have tried a factory reset but it says in the manual to hold the reset button until the power light blinks but power light is not responding. Oh dear. Anyone selling a B10A?

If it is bricked you should still be able to open the device and connect to the serial port and recover it.

I have a feeling it is something more complex than that as the power light is on very dim but not blinking and other lights are the same whereas the LAN lights blink once and are very bright. I would like to give it a go any instructions anywhere?

I don't know of any instructions but will suggest that you take carefully thought out steps, slowly.

Before even thinking about opening up the case please perform a simple preliminary test --
  • Disconnect all leads from the device.
  • Connect a different, known working, PSU (obviously with the correct output voltage and current ability) and plug it into the mains.
  • Observe the behaviour of the LEDs.
You might be lucky and it may turn out that the existing PSU is faulty.

Unfortunately, the LED behaviour is the same with a Billion 12v PSU both PSUs are outputting 12v2.

Billion is 12v 1.5A. ZyXEL is 12v 1.0A. Not looking good.

Just get your money back or refund from the seller first before looking for another ZyXEL time bomb

Already contacted him and he said no returns. Wonder if Ebay will cover it? Filled in a returns form see what happens.

It used to be like that but has changed it says now "You can ask us to step in if you don't hear back from the seller by 05 Aug".

If you need a ZyXEL VMG1312-B10A I might be able to sell you mine. I'm not using it at present.
