2014 Nissan X-Trail: The maps are held on an SD card which has to be in all the time. Updates are well over £100.

As we tow a caravan we have now bought a Garmin based unit (with free lifetime updates) through the Caravan Club which allows you to put in your outfit dimensions and then gives suitable directions.

We are going to look at a new Vauxhall Mokka X, It's another thing I will ask about when I go for a test drive.

I have a Vauxhall.  It interacts with my phone over bluetooth or usb.
This is the official video for Apple Support but theres also an app for Android.

PS I notice on there it says connect your phone by USB.
On mine most of the android phone functions are available via bluetooth, so it just autoconnects when I get in the car without me having to do anything and I keep my phone in my handbag.
I think maps and any personal music stored on your phone need usb though.
