Best router VPN
« on: June 06, 2017, 11:47:19 AM »

I have been using PureVPN coupled with my TP-Link and Asus routers and they are working pretty fine.

What do you think are the best VPN offering the best router compatibility?

My Preference is pfsense, I use it built on a N3050 dual nic board, once set up it just chugs along, I also have use of an Asus router loaded with a vpn for away use, it seems to struggle is loaded too much. Pfsense can be a bit of a learning curve though.

In terms of consumer routers, go for the Netgear Nighthawk X10 R9000 if you don't mind splashing out 360 notes. Then load DD-WRT on it and make use of the router's 1.7ghz Alpine Quadcore processor to give you serious processing power. Running a airvpn connection using the Openvpn protocol on my R9000 in DD-WRT gives me speeds of ~ 60/15 Mbps on a vdsl2 75/19 Mbps service - previously no router has given me greater speeds than 30/15 Mbps. Will be interesting to see how the router copes with my soon to be installed 330/30 Mbps FTTP connection  :P
