Ring wire and NTE5

(1/1)

Cliff_G:
Sorry if this is a daft question but I can't tell from most net-published information a definitive answer to this: if once you have an NTE5 faceplate (phone/broadband splitter within the Master socket [standard ADSL]) do you then need to [re-]connect the ring wire on your phone-side wiring to get extensions to ring?

As a sub-question, I presume if you do connect the ring wire then you'll not get the ring-wire-as-aerial-speed-degradation problem since it's on the phone wiring side?

Thx in advance.  (Would prefer a definitive answer before I go wire up the extension in my mother-in-law's new property rather than use trial and error.)

Ronski:
There's no need for the ring wire on modern phones, only some really cheap and nasty ones or very old ones require it.

...and if you have one that does, a rat's tail filter or filtered extension socket will enable it to ring.

The fact that it will in effect be 'double filtered' is of no consequence.

Cliff_G:
Thanks both.  The phones are cheap (we're moving them from her old place - argos cheapy big-button phones but they do the job) but modern (only months old).  Will take a spare filter along anyway.
