Mrs Weaver's iPhone
« on: April 08, 2017, 03:59:40 PM »

I'm trying to research replacements for Mrs Weaver's beloved iPhone 5c. She doesn't want to get rid of it, but the processor architecture is old hat and its flash storage space is completely inadequate for all her many photos and music and the number of apps she would like to have but can't, and it doesn't have enough RAM either. What could I get instead that is physically small with an excellent display, modern CPU and lots of storage? Should I wait, given that there is no time pressure, she can struggle on as she is for a while.

Seconded.  Same footprint as the 5C, but with the iPhone7's innards.

I saw that model on the Apple website. It has an A9 processor instead of an A10 processor iirc. I don't know what the practical difference might be, is she likely to care?

Just a slight correction, the innards are that of a 6s, not a 7. Still bloody good though mind you. Thank you for your time.

The A10 essentially upgraded the graphics chipset slightly, and added 2 lower power cores for improved battery life and multi-threaded performance. It is very unlikely she will be bothered coming from a 5S, as the A9 is probably around 90-110% more powerful than the chip in the 5S anyway.

Very true.  Just got my iPhone numbering wrong.  Still on Android, so have a bit of an excuse.

I think Mrs Weaver doesn't have any better options if she wants to stay with the form factor of the 5C.

And it's very competitively priced compared to the bigger Apple handsets.
