Codelook - now includes expansion
« on: April 07, 2017, 09:49:19 AM »

Codelook's database was updated a couple of days ago, and now seems to show the plans for expanding FTTC cabinets.

It now includes text to show either
- expanded <date>
- being expanded by <date>

My town has no plans, but (after lots of photos here) I can see plenty being upgraded in Margate/Ramsgate/Broadstairs.

Yep noticed it last night.

Couple round here have been expanded, only ever with H288 cabs.

Anyone seen any smaller cabs used for expansion work?

Yes there's loads being done around Ramsgate,  Broadstairs and Margate area,  all Huawei's from what I've seen. My own cab also has been done,  but  I've no idea of it is live yet,  as it's been flicking between waiting list and accepting orders for months now - it's never shown a go live date like John's did. I wonder if "expanded 16th March 2017" means it's live, if anybody in the know can shed any light please it's NDBRO18.

All expanded cabs I've aeen have been H288's, paired up with ECI cabs.

This (old) diary shows a small Huawei being expanded by a small Huawei.
https://thecomputerperson.wordpress.com/2014/11/10/diary-of-an-fttc-install/

Interestingly, it looks like both came provisioned with 2 linecards and 2 blanking plates.

Nowadays, it doesn't surprise me that Huawei 288's seem to be being used as a matter of course. I suspect (fairly strongly) that this is driven by a longer-term desire to migrate to SOGEA and migrate off the PSTN. Having capacity "out there" will help.

Isn't that a diary of two seperate PCP's getting fibre twins? Not a cab which is at capacity having an additional fibre cabinet installed?

Is there anything that can be discerned about what the people who are in control of our lives are getting up to? In the 'Exchange 8' area of the NSBFD exchange

That is just showing the DEL bundle numbered 8 and the postcode area which it serves.

I just wondered if 'exchange 8' had any significance. There is a link in that page up to the page containing data on the exchange.

The only significance is that there are at least seven other DEL bundles.

My eyes are dim, I cannot see! Or at least I couldn't see any expanded info, when I selected Localityor Post Code. Am I looking in the wrong place?

You need to check the cabinet list per exchange. Not individual postcodes.

Seems rather more useful than samknows, or am I wrong? Is samknows starting to suffer from a bit of a time lag?

Samknows changed their focus a few years ago, to their whitebox testers. The exchange-level data seems to be relatively out of date.

I do use their site for exchange searches, to view their maps, show exchange coverage areas, and to see neighbouring exchanges.

But I tend to use codelook more for the cab- and postcode-level data. Even that data can get confused when Openreach are in the process of adding extra cabinets.

Good find!

There is only one cabinet expanding in my area.

It says: being expanded by March 2018, some with 18/2M product

Very cool. The one serving me here notes the expansion when a second 288 was added.

FTTC Available from 3rd December 2013, expanded 30th December 2014
