problem posting
« on: April 26, 2008, 09:55:36 AM »

Twice now, whilst trying to make my first post of the day, (usually in the games section , I have been faced with an error message which reads "The last posting from your IP was less than fifteen seconds ago. Please try again later"

If I ignore that and carry on posting all is well, and the message does not reappear until my first visit to the site the next day.

I am just a bit concerned about the "your IP" bit, am I hijacked, is my IP in use by someone else, is there anything to worry about ?

Bonjour TD  ... I had that same message once this morning, but I thought it was because I had in fact done a previous post VERY SOON before.....   I think, from previous experience,  that it is this site that recognises your IP address and not that you've been hijacked, she says crossing all digits  :)

Your IP address is visible to any site which you visit. If you think about it, this has to be the case, because when you request a web page the server needs to know where to send it. This is quite normal, and isn't a security issue.

The message you saw is exactly what it says - simply a small bit of control by the forum software. I think its purpose is to stop malicious attackers posting a flood of messages in quick succession.

'allo, 'allo scottiesmum and roseway and thank you for your advices.

I can understand all the above, but am confused as to why I should see that message when trying to make my first post of the day.

Did your clicking finger twitch and do a double-click by mistake perhaps?

Thank you for your further response.

I don't think so. My old gnarled hands are such that I cannot do a double click. Instead I must right click, and then click on the "open" option.
Even going into the mouse properties and slowing the double click feature to it's minimum speed, I do not manage a double click, but rather produce two clicks.............not the same thing.

However, because of the same hand problems, anything can happen so I may well have upset the system by doing a wrong click somewhere.

Anyway, obviously not a serious prob. so will put it aside and see what happens at first go tomorrow.

If it only happens on the first post of the day why don't you try missing that one and going straight to your second post?

Its not really going to resolve it - because I dont honestly know why it would have happened..   but out of curiosity do you remain constantly logged in or do you log in each time.

The only thing I can think of was that when you log in (either manually or auto) the software will detect that..  and if your 1st post was within the 15 sec flood control time?
