Speculation

(1/1)

JGO:
I was wondering about the potential advantage of an "Internet ON/OFF switch" the idea being to provide a simple way to block internet access when it is not needed or undesirable, eg when busy with a spreadsheet.

Yes, not difficult with a software firewall but I was thinking about a device for the non-technical.

Any thoughts ?

psychopomp1:
Not sure you would need one considering you can just pull out the ethernet cable or move wifi switch to 'off' position on every PC. Can't get much simpler than that....

JGO:
Plug and Socket reliability is NOT improved by using them as a switch.

psychopomp1:
In that case simply right click network connection and click 'disconnect' (if wifi) or 'disable' (if ethernet). I'm sure even the technologically challenged could manage this. Unless you feel this is adding wear and tear to the mouse buttons?

c6em:
Well on my wired win 7 desktop machine doing that right click brings up a menu of just
1. Troubleshoot problems
2. Open Network and sharing center.
