FTTC issues that start the same time each year
« on: March 05, 2017, 05:17:56 PM »

Hello All.

I've lived at my current home for almost 2 years now and I've noticed a strange issue with my fibre.

I've been with Zen the whole time and between the months of September - January my speeds are fine the max for 40mb fibre with 10mb upload.

Around this time a year ago my line started dropping and the SNR increasing and my speed halfing to 20mb. Zen were great they looked into it for 2 months and eventually they never found the issue countless BT visits found nothing, I had a new line installed and various fibre port resets.

Sure enough it's happened again:

   Upstream   Downstream
Current Rate(kbps)   8445   20279
Max Rate(kbps)   9451   39356
SNR Margin(dB)   8.3   16.7
Line Attenuation(dB)   34.5   19
Errors(pkts)   54   787

My telnet stats:

Zen have already asked if they would want me to start another BT fault case but I've reluctant too since we got nowhere last time. As you can see my downstream SNR has sky rocketed.

I thought possibly the G.INP wasn't active anymore (my TPLINK can't show me this) so I plugged my Zyxel in and it shows the maximum INP i've seen is currently being applied to my line.

I'm wondering if anyone else has similar yearly issues like me. I could normally live with 20mb but I stream a lot of stuff in 4k and 20mb isn't enough for that.

Could you connect with the Zyxel and post the stats from that? It's very odd as the sync shouldn't be that low with such a high SNRM.
Which TP-LINK model do you have? The reason I ask you to connect the ZyXEL as they tend to give more accurate stats direct from the Broadcom chipset.
