Unlocked HG612 on Uno
« on: February 23, 2017, 03:42:37 PM »

Hi,

Anyone using an unlocked HG612 modem with Uno broadband? If yes, would they care to share what setup options were used please? I'm trying to do the same and having some issues, might just be doing something wrong.

Thanks :-)

I am,  but assuming you are using the HG612 as intended, as just a modem, there is nothing to change.  The VLAN id should be 101 by default. All the other ISP specific login details are on the router which does the ppoe.

In terms of what might go wrong.  You may need to do a hard reset of the unlocked HG612 in case anything has been changed from default.  Hold the reset button for 30 sec after it has powered fully up.   If your connecting a second cable for stats you also need to ensure no IP address clash with the default IP of the HG612.  If needed that default can be  changed or something else changed.

It may help if you detail the issues.

I'm using the FTTC master socket to HG612, then the HG612 over LAN1 to my iMac. The line is syncing but in Status>WAN>Network it is alternating between 'Connecting' and 'Disconnected'.

Ok, re-saved the settings in Basic>WAN and now in Status>WAN>Network the connection status is connected. However I'm unable to reach any websites in my browser.  ???

Have you connected the router to the modem like this: http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/hg612unlock.htm#hg612_linestats
?

Hi

If I read correctly, your using your iMac for direct PPPoE and not using a router

This link is from Apple on setting up a pppoe on Mac osx 10.6

Many thanks

I had the HG612 directly connected to the iMac whilst I set it up, but going forward I'd like to have the HG612 go to a TP-Link VR900 the latter of which is in wireless router mode. I'm unclear which LAN on the HG612 to connect to the eWAN socket of the Tp-Link.

When using the HG612 in its default mode, as a pure bridge, its LAN1 port should be connected to the EWAN port of the TP-Link router/WAP

Ah ok, thanks. So the following connection settings too then?

Connection Mode – Bridge
Bridge Type – PPPoE Bridge

This is getting a little confusing.

The default configuration, as when installed by Openreach, is the correct configuration. The simplest way of reverting the HG612 back to that configuration (whilst still retaining the unlocked status) is to press and hold the reset button for at least 10 seconds. (10, 20 or 30 seconds will all effectively have the same result . . . a "long reset"). Once you have released the reset button do not attempt to access the device, power-cycle it, etc, for the next five minutes. Just leave it alone.

Once that five minutes has elapsed, you could power-cycle the device. It will then be configured as a pure bridge, using a VLAN tagged 101.

Should I expect to be able to connect to the HG612's GUI after doing this?

Yes, through LAN2

Ok thanks, but LAN2 (if the HG612 is in Bridge Mode) can only be used for accessing the GUI, is that correct? Not connect to the internet.

Correct. :)

LAN1 performs the G.993.2/PTM <---> Ethernet frames bridge.

LAN2 provides access to the HG612 itself. Either via the GUI or via the CLI, which can be ssh or telnet.
