We've been discussing it here

They are blocking telnet and access to the Broadcom CLI.
That rules me out from ever purchasing it. Absolutely ridiculous having such a high end modem and then locking out some of it's chipsets key features.

(Asus give as preset this time only a debug firmware so users can play with dsl stats tool or monitor other telnet settings
All you have to do is enable telnet at pc and telnet 192.168.1.1
No password needs
The command is bcm_xdslctl for dsl settings & the well known xdsl broadcom commands)

The ability for it to re-sync after the firmware has been vastly improved and sped up, here are some quick VDSL based DSLstats, obviously really need a week or so for some proper stats on firmware, before I can truly recommend it to anybody on this forum.

So far I am loving it a lot more than the Netgear D7000, nice to have decent properly working IPV6 with Zen Internet on the ASUS unlike the Netgear.

Also I really love the fact that the DSL port is RJ45 size and given that all the latest BT Master Sockets since Mk 3 and Mk 5C have had RJ45 size it is nice to use my CAT5e or CAT6 cables which tend to be easier for me to router and lay down across the room and behind the sofa etc, most RJ11 cables always seem a pain due to them being thinner.

Although I like it, I would recommend anybody interested in this to wait a few more 'Official' firmware's before buying, I will keep posting stats so people can see it's stability etc.

ASUS have said that Telnet will only be locked down until they are sure there are no security holes from unlocking it and then they will enable and if you notice they have released a debug version with Telnet open for people to test via Babis3g.

Better to be locked down at the beginning until they are sure it is safe and also cool if they keep releasing debug versions for us that are fine with such.

Of course having a tick box under an advanced page with a warning and an option to set a username and password all for telnet would be a much better all round feature

The usual firmware has telnet blocked for security reasons for now ... like you said only temporary may release some bedbug versions for testing or some users can play with telnet from time to time
