Notification
« on: April 23, 2008, 01:15:17 AM »

This forum has today had to regretfully revoke the posting rights of a member due to complaints and concerns over his behaviour, which has been brought to our attention from several other members. It would appear that he has been doing this in PMs both on and off this site, and also via other means.

As we are unaware of the full extent of this person's defamatory behaviour we have decided to make a short statement to clarify our position.

  • This site or its staff have no financial affiliations with BT other than those incurred through the normal use of a landline/BT retail service.
  • Site staff are volunteers and are not here to be abused.
  • We are not a political site nor do we work to others agenda.
  • This is a help site - Taking threads off topic detracts from assisting the original poster.
  • Said individual had been requested on several occasions to refrain and take "debates" to the relevant section.  Despite claims to the contrary we have never closed any threads he has opened.
  • The person concerned was causing increased workload for moderators due to concerns over his behaviour raised by several visitors to the site.
  • We take no pleasure in banning members and it is viewed as very much a last resort.

This site is a well respected source of information within the adsl and ISP community.
We have never claimed to be Telecoms experts, although amongst the site staff and regular users there is a large wealth of knowledge about adsl, ISPs, networking, electronics, BT, computing and IT.

Thought I'd tie a few things up here and provide some links to examples of where said individual has been warned about his behaviour.

  • This notification thread was posted in direct relation to the additional concerns we had regarding this person's abuse of the PM facility, also the number of concerns about raised about his behaviour by forum members.
  • This post sums up just how far he was pushing his luck, and how our patience with him was starting to wear very thin.

After yet another complaint was brought to our attention and the discovery of yet more underhand behaviour, we unfortunately found ourselves with no alternative but to undertake the action that we have done.

I would also like to echo the sentiment above that banning a member is viewed as a last resort, and something that we do not like to do. Unfortunately we had no real choice in the end.
