Well If you can't manually telnet in then DslStats has no chance. It's obviously not a DslStats issue then but a Mac/wine issue.

You should probably open a separate thread if you want further help diagnosing the problem as Roseway is likely subscribed to this thread and possibly getting emailed each time you post here.

Please put my inability to telnet into the router down to my technical incompetence, rather than any other issue.

I restarted DSLStats this evening and it lasted three minutes remaining connected this time.

Not sure about how the program is working but it din't allow me to telnet into the router when it was up and running, but after it was erroring, I could connect in.  So DSLStats has dropped the session (which may well be as designed).

I suspect you are right about it being a Mac/Wine issue, but it would be good to understand whether anybody else is managing to use DSLStats with Wine on a Mac or whether this is a common issue.

Whilst it may not help I had a 8924 before the 8324 I am on now. Originally I tried to use hg612 stats. Regardless of what we tried (worked with BE) the stats would fail after about an hours worth of data. It would get access again about 17 minutes after the first failed attempt. I also had issues when I tried dsl stats. I know there are others with no issue uploading with the 8924 but I couldn't get the one I had to play ball regardless

Have you tried hg612 stats for testing/comparison.

I did download HG612 Stats, but looked at the number of executables and decided it might be too much of a challenge to get it to run under Wine.

Worth another try though.

[speculation] ..or could it be firmware related? [/speculation]

One issue with the Zyxel modem/routers is that with all recent firmware versions (anything later than 6b1) they only accept a single telnet access at any one time, and this can lead to issues with logging in.
perhaps get a hold of 6b1 or earlier and see if that works. If it does then something's preventing the telnet session from closing.

A quick search and here's someone who's managed to get it working in a similar environment. Might be worth a message.
