That line towards the end of your Netflix Inc. (NFLX) streaming bill may soon include a tax.

As their popularity and revenue increase, streaming services are also becoming a target for lawmakers around the United States as a source for tax revenues. Chicago was first off the mark after it instituted a 9% cloud tax on video streaming services last year. Pennsylvania passed a 6% sales tax in August this year on digital downloads. The tax includes “music or any other audio, video such as movies and streaming.” And Pasadena in California slapped a 9.4% utility tax on streaming video to make up for lost revenues when the city’s residents switched from cable to streaming. A CBS news report claims that forty cities in California are considering similar laws to boost tax collection from streaming services.
