The A1024 Proceedure
« on: November 19, 2016, 07:43:02 PM »

It was N*Star's recent thread that caused me to think about the process of flagging defective plant or equipment with an A1024 label.

Surely there must be more to the process than just affixing a label? I would expect that the details should also be entered into a centralised database; otherwise no remedial action would be planned?  :-\

Absolutely right. The label is there for identification purposes only, for ............

1) The auditors, who will give the engineer a 'defect' should he find faulty or defective issues during his audit.
2) The engineers, so they will know not to waste time ringing the A1024 duty to re-report the same issue.

The labels are waterproof, but of course over time they can fade with weather conditions. The labels should actually be pinned to the poles with the writing facing the pole, for this reason. Also, they can get damaged and torn .......... so sometimes a call to the A1024 duty is needed for clarification.

Last Monday, as I was walking slowly into the town centre, I happened upon a "hollow pole" with an A1024 label attached. Knowing it might be of interest to N*Star, I made a point of noting the defect and the date recorded on the label --

Eight low drop wires.
May 2009.

I made a point of counting the drop wires, there were eight. Not having any height measuring rods with me, I assessed them by eye. The sag, at mid-point of each span, seemed to be minimal.

Either the defect has been remedied and the label has not been removed or it has been forgotten about for the last seven and a half years!  :-\
