It's educating Ren time!

Is ECI the actual company name, or what is it in full? Is it a UK registered company?

..so will have an agenda not necessarily one we might have. Is BT continuing to install their stuff, and how much of their UK business is reliant on BT? Then there are the unknowns of Brexit, the UK company seemingly a direct subsidiary of Dutch company.

All new installations appear to be Huawei, but maintenance of existing ones may be a problem.

In terms of G.Fast, they are using Huawei and Nokia (Alcatel-Lucent). So this might be a reason for why they chose Nokia instead of ECI.

Am I missing something?
Did anyone actually read the thread on ThinkBroadband?

Hi all

I was told today by a Openreach Broadband Engineer visinging my home that ECI was going buat/bankrupt.
He said all hardware provided by ECI would be phased out and replaced as needed when ECI replacements is no longer available.
Is this true?
could this mean that all the ECI Hubs/Cabs could be replaced by huawei.......

It sounds like absolute nonsense. There's absolutely nothing to say that ECI are in any financial difficulty. Sounds to me like some engineer has noticed OR are exclusively installing Huawei cabinets and jumped to a massive assumption. Or the OP of that thread was telling a whopper.

FWIW .......... there has been no official communications within Openreach (at engineering level at least), regarding anything to do with ECI.

Ribble who seems very well informed stated back in October that ECI cabs were still being deployed and seemed surprised that Huawei cabs were being placed along with existing ECI cabs.

I would politely disagree with him. He seemed to think the Huawei cabs were placed in error and had never seen a mix on the same PCP. After seeing this for the 1st time on this site last month, there has been 3 such instances on my exchange in the past couple weeks. 2 ECI's being added to with Huawei 288s and 1 with a smaller Huawei cab. A few months ago all ECI cabs that were being given more capacity were getting another ECI.

Whatever the reason lets hope no more ECI cab's are deployed, my cab currently has a waiting list, hopefully it's full to capacity and they will install a Huawei to expand capacity.

john is why I said rumour not fact, also I didnt expect this to be a focus for discussion, I originally posted as a side comment in the other ECI thread, but someone moved it to its own thread.  I personally agree its not true hence I didnt make a separate thread in the first place.

Also my area has mixed cabinets also I think I even posted about it some months back, where a industrial estate area got hauwei cabinets when all the surrounding streets have ECI.  The only difference is the deployment date, the estate got activated about 2 and half years after the other streets.

My area is full but I have been told there will be no third cabinet, apparently openreach stop at two although I am happy to be corrected on that if indeed they will install a third.

Personally my belief is openreach have stopped deploying ECI, but its because of the realisation of the technical performance rather than ECI going bankrupt.

My above post was attempting to  say that a change to one of its customer's purchasing policy could have a considerable impact on decisions to remain in the UK market.

As to mixed boxes, that is situation locally. There my cab, worked from the  post codes served and the percentage of addresses served, appears to service ~700 addresses, of which less than 100 are more than a kilometer distant by road. Whatever may be going on, or not, with ECI, the addional Huwaie is needed.

Apologies folks what what may be another irrelevance!

I wasn't criticising the thread, just giving my opinion on the subject.

Personally I haven't seen a new ECI deployed on its own in quite a while, probably over a year ago. I've seen 2nd ECI cabines to add capacity for already situated ECI cabinets as recently as a couple months ago. I haven't seen any ECI cabinets at all installed in the last couple months though. Even existing ECI cabinets are all being added to with Huawei cabinets.

That certainly wouldn't help their bottom line. It's a huge jump to bankruptcy though.
