Just out of interest really, is this common practice in new builds?



The top socket has a cable running from the DP for BT to install their master socket, and the lower socket runs to the extensions. The two are linked with this loop cable.

I've just never seen this before. I wonder why they don't just feed the extension wire into the upper socket to be connected directly into the master.

That's good to hear, I guess.

I suppose it's because they don't then have anyone messing with their wiring. They've tested their circuit, Openreach have tested theirs, and the two are then linked together. A bit weird, but perhaps that's the reason.

I guess if you have the option of more than one phone supplier (Such as Virgin cable for example) it allows an easy way to connect the internal wiring to whichever supplier you choose without having to 'hard' reconfigure the wiring.

I can see how it is convenient ... but it does look a bit bodgey so I am not surprised the OP posted the question.
