Hi Im not aware of DMT being able to work with Netgear DG834Gs (V1,V2,V3).

Thats because they all have an AR7 chipset.
However Netgear DG834G v4 uses a Broadcom chipset and therefore its possible that DMT tool v8 will work with it.

You should be able to tell which version you have from a sticker underneath the router.

hi guys. just registered to say this, had a hardish time finding the info so i hope its useful here :)

i have a DG834G v4 and DMT tool does indeed work with it. i have the newest firmware and v8 of the tool.

before it will work however you need to use this line in your browser;

http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug (replacing the ip if your routers is different)

you can then connect with the tool using the default settings it uses. if you dont use the line it tells you it cant recognize the router or such, at least it did for me

cheers

another thing i found great with my 834G v4, although as you probably all know it ill put it in this thread rather than start a new one. if your snr drops a little bit at night (mine goes down by three or so) and you have SRA (seamless rate adaptation) enabled in dmt tool. your sync will lower (at least mine did) to meet the lower margin. so turn it off via the snr tab and bobs your mothers brother!

of course i guess this means that if your lines snr goes too low you will flat out d/c but in my case the sync would lower itself to 3000 at night (down from 3600) i lose one stage of IP profile and overall not a great thing. with sra off it stays at 3600 and the snr reduces from 10 to 7+- which is still fine. (with it on it would keep the snr at 10 while lowering sync - without resyncing)

so if you have a fluctuating sync rate, which is causing you to lose a stage or two of ip profile. turn sra off. if it gets unstable simply turn it on again, but it worked great for me :)
on the flip side if you get lots of DCs and don't mind losing sync speed maybe turning it on would work. but this is merely a hypothesis

P.S.

I hear some isps don't support SRA (im on BT) so your mileage may vary, also i imagine it will work with other routers but i cant test that

SRA isn't supposed to work with ADSL(1). It's a feature of ADSL2+. But that being said, I've had experiences of it apparently happening in the past.

very strange then. because my line altered the sync without disconnecting. and now it doesnt.. strange

and i can also categorically state that whilst playing world of warcraft online, the sync rate decreased and i wasn't disconnected. now i'm not sure how it would manage that, as before the new router etc it would disconnect all the time. let alone after resyncs

One possibility is that the router does disconnect and reconnect, but it happens quite quickly and reconnects before the PPP session gets dropped by the ISP. So you would appear to have a continuous connection but it wasn't so really.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but merely that it's not supposed to happen.

if that happened wouldn't the router reset the connection time?

That does seem to suggest that you are on ADSL2. What are your router stats?

it does just say adsl on the dmt main page though -

but having said that. the sync rate is much higher than it ever has been. (last year the best we got was 1500). but probably they just improved the line

Very strange.

IIRC theres only Easynet that does SRA... and BT doesnt..
but I can recall Eric saying he'd seen it in the past, and he's not the only one that Ive seen mention how sync speed has changed without any apparent loss of sync.

I also find it strange that the router is reporting figures in both adsl and adsl2.  Normally adsl2 would be all zeros... and it cant be using both adsl1 and adsl2 at the same time.. so perhaps a reporting bug in the firmare?
