Yellow or Pink?
« on: November 06, 2016, 05:59:44 PM »

Self explanatory if you look at the image below.

Thought I'd ask opinion as I know some of you have problems with certain/bright colours.  Not being colour blind it makes no odds to me.

Ignore icons as they will be included either way.

Definitely not pink as the contrast is too low between that and the blue text - although you could change the text colour

I tried a brighter pink, but it soon over-whelmed the blue text.  So I then tried a contrasting lighter text colour, but that looked totally wrong and tbf not very nice  :D

I'd also tried various shades of blues/aqua for the highlight but that stood out less due to the site colour scheme and the fact that the bb price, line price and total was also various shades of blue.     Red needs a white/ text and I didnt like that at all as it was overkill.   Green was okayish, but IMHO not as good as the yellow.. and iirc more people have problems with greens and reds?

The yellow stands out well without being too garish.   The lilac colour fits in well with the existing scheme and although I do like it, I had reservations if it stood out enough.

I must have a peculiar colour perception problem :D. I cannot see anything pink in Kitz's examples. I can usually see pink i.e. elephants. ;)

I, likewise. The two colours that I see are yellow and (almost) violet!

hahah.. yes its not really a pink.
It started off as pink, but I was adjusting the tones/hue/saturation until I got a colour that looked ok. So in reality its actually now more of a lilac - #EBCAFE to be exact :)

Hi kitz

It's just a thought, but have you tried with just a colour star icon and no block colouring

This may stand out a little more perhaps

I hope you don't mind my thought

Many thanks

A bit like choosing an American president. If it has to be one of them - it's a vote for yellow.

In good light  the other colour is about OK, but yellow would stand out more in lesser conditions.

Colour Contrast ratios, shouldn't they be used to help decide such matters?

my answer is mixed

yellow has the much better contrast so easier to read
however the pink feels more fitting with the theme.

Yellow is more 'the standard' for that type of thing and it catches the eye more.

Thanks guys.   The poll was open for a bit longer, but at 17/1 I think yellow is the clear winner, so I may as well close it now :)
