On a different note, have you got IPv6 working on your 9980?

Lets say I want to cap my current line stats 39999kbps DS and 6450kbps US to DS 30000 Kbps and the US to 5000 kbps the equation is xdslcmd configure --maxDataRate 30000 5000 35000

It is enabled in W9980's settings but I don't have it.

Yes, that is right, so in my case it will be 40000 10000 50000

There is few ES on my US but SnR NEVER goes below 6dB is there really any point of capping US?

Nope unless you see an increase of US errored seconds then keep it at 7998   kbps so 37000 DS + 7998 US = 44998

xdslcmd configure --maxDataRate 37000 7998 44998 as you can see if you use this rule you won't go wrong the DS sync + US sync = the third parameter

That makes sense. I have never had interleaving applied to US. If interleaving on my line is applied only to DS, does DLM care about US ES/SES?

US ES/SES are seen by the DLM/DSLAM the same way as DS Errored seconds the Upstream would also go into interleaved mode once the US errored seconds have gone above the DLM threshold

The third figure does not have to be equal to the sum of the down and up figures, just equal to or greater. I usually leave at 100000.  If you don't want to cap the upstream

xdslcmd configure --maxDataRate 35000 20000 100000     should work

or
  xdslcmd configure  --maxDataRate 35000 8000 100000

Would it be better to force immediate resync or unplug DSL lead, enter the command and wait 30 mins before plugging it back?

For just one resync it should not matter but for maximum safety 1. power down and wait 30+ mins
While you are waiting
2. disconnect dsl lead into HG612.
3. power up hg612 etc but with no dsl lead connected tso it can't sync
4. log into HG612 gui and under basic - dsl untick vdsl so it won't sync even when connected
5. power back down
  After 30 min
Connect dsl lead power up and login via telenet.

  use command

xdslcmd configure --mod v --maxDataRate 35000 8000 100000

The modem should sync up with the cap in place.

This way you avoid two resyncs.

You could other wise set the cap before you plug in the dsl lead after step 3.

You need to enter the Busybox shell before invoking that "xdslcmd configure blah blah" command line.

So --
  • Login to the HG612
  • At the ATP> prompt enter sh and press the <Enter> key.
  • At the # prompt, then enter the xdslcmd configure --maxDataRate 40000 10000 50000 command line (for example) and press the <Enter> key.
This ^^
In your screenshot your simply missing the "sh"
The 3rd figure should be the 40000 & 10000 figures added together or higher. It can be left at 100000 in all cases.

May I direct you to here for my recent experience successfully using the speed cap to get rid of interleaving that was stuck for months while ILQ green.

Thanks j0hn for sharing this. I noticed on MDWS that you are interleaved again with sync of 29993, what happened? I'll cap the sync to 35000 10000 100000 later when everyone will go off to work as they are all using the internet now. Or should I wait till tomorrow for DLM to move me back to fast path hopefully? The only time frame when ES are at its highest is between 5pm and 10-11pm. I remember when I had ECI modem connected for a few days and was still interleaved, I swapped it for HG612 3B and fast path came back after just 12 hours and it stayed that way for very long time, then I replaced HG612 with W9980 and I was still on fast path till now..

I got too close to the daily ES limit. It took 10 days last time to drop off again. I'm switching to BT on the 18th so should be able to set the limit higher and retain fastpath with double the ES allowed on BT's Speed profile.

So from what I understood, BT use Speed profile which allows up to 2880 ES/24Hrs to stay on fast path and TalkTalk use standard profile which allows half ES (1440)?
