Win10 unresponsive whilst no network connection
« on: October 28, 2016, 11:01:30 AM »

Does anyone else get this on windows 10 whereby if there is no network connection to the router/internet, (ie if you reboot your router) then the PC will tend to not want to do anything else until it gets a new network connection?  Its like the PC becomes totally unresponsive during this and you cant open any new apps etc.

Because its unresponsive I cant really see what is going on but....

The reason Im asking is I 'think' this may be causing HG612 stats to lockup during this period and then start a duplicate HG612modem stats instance, which in turn then locks up DSLstats, which can then cause the known issue with the Zyxel in that the web GUI and telnet will lock up if it has too many open sessions.

I have not seen that behaviour but I have a few thories as to why it could be happening.

1 - integrated MS cloud services, this also affects win8.1 which I had to fix on my PC, e.g. when saving documents the explorer process showing the save as windows would hang indefinitely, I solved it by disabling onedrive in policy editor.
2 - phone home services, this shouldnt hang the OS but windows 10 is constantly calling back to HQ, there is a slight chance I guess this may have malfunctioned on your machine.
3 - The auto wifi search feature, windows 10 will automatically try to connect to other wifi connections if the one it uses is dropped by default.
4 - windows update, again fully automated in win10.

These are only guess's as I have not experienced your problem except #1 but #1 doesnt hang the OS, it just hangs the save as window.

I think I had something similar in Windows 7, my account would lock up when signing in, but I could login to my wife's without issues. I realised my wife's had no mapped network drives but mine did, and IIRC unplugging the network cable would let me login. Can't really remember how I fixed it now though.

Thanks guys, I think ronski may have good point.   I do have 2 mapped drives to my NAS and it is possible its related.

Attached below screen cap of what happens when I reboot my router.  Until I got an internet connection again, the PC was totally unresponsive and wouldn't do anything.
iirc the Seagate backup software for my NAS requires the drives to be mapped. :(
