Disconnection problems
« on: October 21, 2016, 12:39:24 AM »

Having some disconnection problems lately, it seems either the BT openreach modem decides to turn itself off or does something wierd or we get random disconnects from the exchange or DSLAM?

Here is log from router. Note that sometimes when this happens I cannot log in to the router, I either get the login screen for the admin CP or I get "connection timed out to 192.168.1.1". Only tried over wireless though.

Since the modem is locked, do you suggest buying an unlocked one? I was thinking it is on ECI and the dslam is Broadcom so what should I get that doesn't break the bank?

Absolutely! if you're on a Huawei (broadcom) cabinet then use a Huawei HG612 modem to obtain optimum sync speeds as well enable G.INP (if not already enabled). One going for £20 on fleabay:

Follow these instructions to get the HG612 unlocked (a doddle!)

I am wondering if it is the router. Been downloading maxxed out on Steam and then I come home and I load up firefox...this seems to crash the router...can't connect to router admin CP and steam reports no connection.

5 mins later it is working again?

Out of interest which router do you have connected to the Openreach modem? Might be worth doing a factory reset on the router and then re-configuring the settings (preferably manually) and obviously ensure the firmware is up to date. Only bin the router as a last resort :(

For my pc, the way it is currently is

ECI modem ___> Asus DSL-ac68u (In RT mode) ---> TP-Link 300 extender ______> PC

---= wifi
__= ethernet cable.

In the future, when master socket is moved, it will go

ECI ___> Asus ___> PC

Still, getting terrible ftp speeds

Thanks. Might be worth getting rid of the DSL-AC68U and replacing it with the RT-AC68U? The DSL variant might be the root cause of your problems...even operating as a standalone router.
