If you disable QOS your upload will improve by 1 Mbps

Dray. Never seen that comment about QOS. I did try disabling but no apparent difference although didn't want to reboot. I only have 1999 upload currently 🤔

it's about a 1mb gain if you sync near the full 20mb. on 2mb you may only see a 0.1mb throughput increase, or perhaps none at all.

2. If you disable the firewall then the modem is open for configuration from the WAN, so at least change the password.

My other devices have a dedicated menu option to enable/disable access from the WAN. I see this doesn't have that option so guess it's best to leave the firewall on.

Just a note to clarify how I'm accessing it now: I am from a windows 10 laptop with the firewall on and defender real time protection on and accessing and managing the device happily as I can on all my other devices :-)

Regards
Clive

In bridge mode there is no external WAN access to the modem so the modem firewall can and probably should be disabled as it will serve no function. The following is from the original firmware modification thread (reply#8)

Which mode is the modem operating in???

In bridged mode with the router handling pppoe, packets from the external network are passed straight through to the router which becomes the 'point of entry' referred to above. This is the default operating mode for FTTC (BT Infinity, etc.)

It's worth noting that there's no 'direct' access to the modem from the internet when operating in this mode except via BT's VLAN (ptm1.301). The modem firewall only controls local access via LAN2 and probably remote access via BT's VLAN as well.

Thanks for that RealAleMadrid. That makes sense to me. I'll try it and see if I get wan access when I put it online next.

Specifically, look at the "ACL" section under the "Firewall" tab. Working from memory, you should ensure that the defined rules are appropriate for your use-case of the device.

OK, last question (I hope).
I'm struggling to get access to the web GUI via lan port 1.
I have the settings on my router in wan_ start and nat_ start scripts which work for my other modems in that i can access the modem via any client on my network via the wan port on my router to the LAN port on the modem.
If I untick LAN1 under Basic > WAN > Port binding so that non of the LAN ports are bound to the WAN Port will this give me access to the web GUI via LAN1 and still give me WAN access to the internet?
Sorry, but I've screwed it up once and want to be sure before I submit the changes and possibly lock myself out again 😓.

The attached works for me. Router WAN port connected to LAN1, LANport connected to LAN2.

Thanks liquorice, I've got that working but what I want is to access the modem via lan1 through my router so that i can administer the modem and access stats from anywhere on my LAN.

OK, I guess you just want to save a LAN port on your router rather than use LAN2 connected to a LAN port. I think there is a thread somewhere on here about sharing WAN and LAN on the same port if you have a search.

Sorry, I forgot to update you all. I got it working by following this thread http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,17671.0.html
I now have access to my modem via any router LAN port.
