What modem are you using now? Has DSLstats ever worked with it? If it has, what's changed?

[I've split this and changed the title from the thread where it was originally posted, as it appears to be unrelated.]

Does this mean that you've changed from something else to ADSL2, and now DSLstats is reporting telnet timeout issues?

No been on ADSL2 for years.

Installed a fresh DSLstats on another laptop but it's the same.

Using a 'terminal' to connect to the modem seems ok.

I will have to do more investigations.

So if I'm understanding correctly, nothing has changed in your setup, but for no obvious reason DSLstats has started reporting telnet timeouts after a long period of normal operation. As far as I can see, the only possibilities are poor connections between the PC and the modem (unlikely) or some deterioration or glitch in the HG612. The next step would be a reboot of the HG612.

I re-booted the modem several times (might swap it for another HG612 ?) , my hardware firewall it stopping lots and lots of hits (1000's per day) on port 23, 2323, Telnet on all my sets of IP Addresses.
These seem to come from Asia, Caribbean  >:D  but this should not effect the internal Telnet to the modem  :hmm:

Not sure about that if a user has your IP address they can run hundreds of port scans and cause the modem to go into the DOS (denial-of-service) stage for a few minutes or indefinitely the best way is to disable ICMP echo requests

re..'disable ICMP echo' it is

These hits are coming from many ip not just one or two.
Mainly 'Asia Pacific Network' and 'Latin American and Caribbean IP address'

Odd things going on with my Motorola AP6522 access point, I am going to take it out of service as it looks like this is my problem with DSLstats.
