DSLstats - Second stage login failure
« on: September 12, 2016, 11:27:51 AM »

Not 100% what happened, but for some reason I am now seeing the "Second stage login failure" error when I start DSLstats.

It has been working fine for a long time using version 5.7.1 on a raspberry pi. I've tried using the latest release and the pre-release, but neither of them seem to help.

Using a HG612.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Just as a quick update to this, I've also tried deleting my DSLstats config folder to start fresh but I'm given the same error.

The logging-in part of the program hasn't changed materially for a long time (before v5.7.1) apart from recently increasing the telnet timeout, and this can only help with login problems. So I can't explain this issue, unless you are connecting to the Raspberry Pi by WiFi and something has changed in that area.

Everything is ethernet and nothing has changed since my last resync on MDWS, so it is slightly confusing.

I can also still telnet into the HG612 from the Pi, so it doesn't seem to be a connection problem.

I'll try running the DSLstats on another linux box in the house when I'm home tonight to rule out the Pi being the issue.

Hmm, still no luck, even tried a fresh Raspbian install on the Pi, but I'm still greeted with the second stage login failure.

I can both access the HG612 through the web GUI and through telnet, so I know there isn't a problem there. Not really sure if I want to start rebooting the modem...

I'm sorry that I can't point to a clear solution, but possible things to try would be:

Run DSLstats on a different PC (if you haven't already)
Revert to v5.7.1 to see if it still works properly

Grasping at straws, the shell command is correctly shown as 'sh' on the Login page, I presume?

Still wasn't having any luck with it on different machines, but it looks like the modem / connection was restarted anyway last night because of stormy weather.

No idea what was actually changed, but DSLstats works again after that restart :hmm:

It sounds as though a gremlin got into the modem. :)
