Star Wiring Question
« on: August 30, 2016, 09:10:22 PM »

Hello,

I've been taking a look at some existing wiring at home and have spotted the phones have been wired up in a star configuration, as far as I know star type wiring is not exactly ideal and can cause problems with DSL but I'm not 100% sure in what circumstances it can be bad.

The configuration is as follows
                                                                                    ----Phone 2
                                                                                  /
--BT Line----NTE5/MK2 Openreach VDSL Faceplate----<-------Phone 1
                                                                                  \
                                                                                    ----Phone 3

Is the star configuration acceptable as long as its after the filtered faceplate or is it something best avoided altogether?

Thanks!

It doesn't matter because it's after the filter, so there's no DSL signals going along those bits of phone wiring.

Even if there were only one extension socket, it would still be a problem (a bridged tap) if it weren't filtered off at the master socket.
