Stats Interpretation
« on: August 30, 2016, 08:55:19 PM »

Hello,

I've just taken some stats from my HG612, I don't really understand a lot of what I'm seeing so I've attached the output. I'm hoping to find out if anything about these stats stands out as bad before I think about moving up to Sky Fibre Pro to try and get the extra 10mb or so out of my line.

You could increase your sync rate if you moved from the 40/10 to 55/10 profile with an increase of 12Mbps on the downstream as seen by the extra spare DS SNRM of 10.9 dB    :)

That's the plan :) Was just curious to see if anything on the graphs stood out as a possible line issue that I needed to get resolved first. I did look to see what a bad output looks like for comparison but could not track a good one down.

Thanks!

Sky have retired Fibre Pro now. It has been replaced with Fibre Max.

I am in agreement with N*Star . . . An upgrade to the Openreach 55/10 product would certainly give you an increase in synchronisation speed. However the 80/20 product will be beyond your circuit's capabilities.

The Hlog plot gives an overall positive sense of the circuit's well-being but there is a small anomaly showing up at around the 3425 sub-carrier position.

I was just reading about that, no more static IP option :(

Despite Sky retiring the static IP option I'll probably still move up to Fibre Max to get that bit of extra speed, do you think that anomaly is anything to worry about? I'll grab the stats again tomorrow to see if its still there. I'm not sure how far away I am from cabinet 13 but I'm around 900m straight line distance from the exchange (CMHED), I suppose I'm lucky to get what I do :)

Edit: Looks like I'm 400m from cabinet 13

The data for both the Hlog and QLN plots is only refreshed upon a (re)synchronisation event. So without such an event occurring, tomorrow's Hlog and QLN plots will be identical to those of today.

Looking at the statistics presented I suspect that you have a metallic pathway length of around 450 - 500 metres.

Yea, I might know where the cabinet is but I have zero clue about the route the cable takes :)

I know where CMHED_P13 is located . . . the route that the cable takes is the big unknown (without sight of the network records).  ;)

Well, as it turned out I had to cut the power to the house to relocate/replace some suspect electrical wiring some of which was running quite near the phone line. I've now moved it a lot further away and taken some more stats but it made no real difference (not that I was expecting anything really), there is a slight increase and max down and up speeds from what I've read it's statistically insignificant.

The anomaly you pointed out is still there, it's beyond my knowledge to interpret that anomaly but it does not seem to be causing me any issues for the moment :)

So it is.  :-\

My advice would be to treat it as a sleeping dog and let it lie.  :)

On the Hlog graph, a different bit stands out to me... The small undulations in the lowest tones up to 500. There are knock on undulations in the SNR graph too.

I don't think this, or the higher anomoly, represent much speed to be gained.
