tapatalk alternatives do they exist?
« on: August 23, 2016, 01:19:10 PM »

I noticed tapatalk has started some kind of monetization strategy, I cannot pin the date when they did this but now the app force enables a feeds function, to turn it off one has to be a vip subscriber monthly, it also started push notifications (can turn off at least without vip) and every time make a post somewhere is asking me if I want to add the forum section to feeds, a bit crazy.  What I really dont like tho is that they added a feature they know be annoying, I know they know because they are offering the ability to turn it off as a vip feature.  Is a shame because before these changes tapatalk was quite a nice app.  Although what I may do is grab an old backup of it from titanium backup and then just not upgrade it again.

I'd be interested in this too. Even before the latest updates I found it too pushy generally. I just want a simple app which does what I want and no more.

I hate Tapatalk too, I paid for my version and then suddenly a year or two ads reappeared, GRRRRR , when you pay for the software and they still bombard you with apps.

I tried Forum Fiend for a while but I believe it cratered so I am back to using Tapatalk,  a lot of sites have decent mobile versions now but on balance I still think Tapatalk is better.

It's still possible to download a version of Forum Fiend at https://www.apk4fun.com/apk/32083/ but I don't know anything about the status of this download.

Does that happen on this forum?   When I signed up to install tapatalk integration on my server I selected the option which least bugs the user and although you can do things like build up your own ads, I didnt bother and everything should be set to least intrusive to the EU.

However, I got an email about a couple of asking me to do a update, which I haven't yet done because it said something about advertising changes.

yep, it does it when first posting to any section using tapatalk.

I am not 100% sure I remember right tho, so will test again later.

Hmmm.  Ok ty, so its nothing to do with the latest upgrade then :/

I'm in no rush to upgrade to the latest version as from what I can see theres no bug fixes, just something to do with Ads.
Tapatalk is a PITA to update as it involves down-time... and rarely goes right first time.

I had a quick look, your forum doesnt have chat available, whilst all the others do which is good.

I did not make a post tho as I had no post to make, but yeah it seems kitz forum is less pushy.

Hi

I use tapatalk and you can turn off feed prompts in settings - even for individual forums you have set

The ads, on mine are a single line, easy to distinguish and not intrusive

Also, I seem to remember a year or so ago, anyone with fully paid version, had to contact tapatalk to correct the ads appearing, but Ofcourse it may have changed now

I hope that helps

Many thanks

John

Hi

Sorry, if it helps better, just been into settings, and you need to disable push notification on whichever forums you want them to stop

I hope I have understood your issue correctly, but apologise if I'm wrong sorry

Many thanks

John

that is already done but it doesnt stop all the feed stuff.

the feed prompts toggle requires vip subscription.

I dont think tapatalk is working atm.   Previous mails said the updates were voluntary, but I got a couple of emails this w/e to say that the version Im using has now expired and I must update.
