NTE5C / MK4 Filter 2016 Version now available for purchase!
« on: August 12, 2016, 11:31:12 AM »

Hi, just letting you guys know that the NTE5C master socket is available now from run it direct.
Here are the links to the products:

NTE5C Master Socket:
https://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/nte5cmastersocket.html

NTE5C & MK4 Filter:
https://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/mk4btopenreachvdslsocket.html

Will be interesting to see the results compared to mk3 filters.

Thanks :)

Problem as I see it is that you need the whole thing as I dont see how the MK4 plate will fit an existing NTE5, and you are not supposed to fiddle with the NTE5 yourself.

Yeah you'll need the whole thing for the mk4 filter to work. I was about to buy it but at 32.99 it just seems a bit expensive. Especially if I don't like the results compared to my Mk2 I am running at the moment. Yeah I know you aren't supposed to mess around with the wring etc but hey ho

Edit:
Well I have went ahead and ordered the Socket and filter, so I will be posting my results comparing:

NTE5A Mk2 & Mk3
vs
NTE5C Mk4

Would be very interested in seeing the results of your comparison. It's difficult to avoid DLM mucking up the results, but if you don't mind taking lots of time over it, then you can get the right results.

Yeah I will try and get the most accurate results, its a real shame that I don't have G.INP yet as that would be the most accurate. But hopefully soon as its been around 5-6 weeks now. I'm hoping for a lower Attenuation and hoping the error rates may change too.

So far, to date, I have not heard any whispers that the actual circuitry of the Mk 4 SSFP is any different to that of the Mk 3. The only difference might just turn out to be a different presentation of the same circuitry.  :-\

The end results, after a longish period of testing, will most certainly be appreciated and gazaai's proposed experiments, for the furtherance of our collective knowledge, shows devotion to the cause.  :)

Well we will see, at least there is the benefit of a nicer looking socket on the wall, if there turns out to be no difference. I am not actually expecting much to be honest, I just like to try out the latest products that is all. You can see the difference in circuit design here between a Mk2 and Mk4, which does look the exact same as the Mk2 components like you said:

Are there more windings on the MK4 coil, or are my failing eyes betraying me ??

Looks like it, I wonder if this may increase the attenuation even more than the mk3 filter lol  :-\

Be interesting to see the effect on line attenuation.  :)

I think the picture on the left is a picture of a Mk2 (also check the image file name - mk2vdslpcb.jpg). We already know there's a difference between the Mk2 and the Mk3.

That's the MK2 filter you've linked to "mk2vdslpcb.jpg". I have the MK3 filter which has more windings than that.

From what I can see on my MK3 faceplate, the MK4 appears to have similar amount of windings.

I hope it beats the MK3 but I cant see it being any better than going straight through, seems expensive though you can get MK3 for under £10.

Maybe the prices will drop when people start stealing them from work
