Have a look at WiFi Manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kman.WifiManager It has a feature to automatically switch Network based on signal strength..

I thought the Zyxel 8924 had 11ac ?

Thanks, I'll have a look at that app.

You are right the VMG8924 has 11ac but I am using it as a "dumb" modem i.e. no wireless or routing - I am not even sure if there is a way of using a modem as a WAP at the same time - interesting question, as far as I know you can't do this but happy to be corrected  :cool:

Its interesting having two connections on two almost identical lines with the same modems and router, one VDSL and one ADSL, if anyone super geeky wants to look at the details with the errors etc and wants to tell me what it means I put it here :) :
